Editing, Marketing & Consulting Services
Need an experienced comic book and copy editor to take a look at your project? How about a skilled public relations correspondent who can help you pen some press releases? Or maybe you’re looking for someone to help you plot out your company’s marketing plan for the next year for maximum exposure… and minimal cost?
In that case, you should definitely drop me a line, because I currently have some open slots available for new clients. As you can probably tell from this website, I’ve got tons of experience as a writer, editor, PR man, marketing director, salesman, and more. I know the ins and outs of the publishing world, with a particular emphasis on the comic book industry. And I’ve got the expertise you need to make your project look great!
Here are some of my accomplishments to date:
- My first success was in crafting the PR campaign for the 2003/2004 comic book miniseries, George R. R. Martin’s The Hedge Knight. It sold well as a comic book, but it went on to become a huge staple in the graphic novel format, finishing 2004 as one of Amazon.com’s highest selling titles in the graphic novel category. Not bad for a title based on a short story than many readers were unaware of!
- In 2005, I wrote and directed marketing for The Wood Boy / Burning Man, a graphic novel that included comic book adaptations of short stories by Raymond E. Feist and Tad Williams. The book sold out within a month, thanks to a great PR campaign and some grassroots efforts.
- In 2005 and in 2006, I was invited to teach a class at the Creative Screenwriting Expo about adapting screenplays into graphic novels. Both years, my panel was one of the highest-rated, and both years, I played to a standing room only crowd.
- In 2007, I was named editor and marketing director on a little-known comic book series adapted from Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter novels. When we first announced the property, the comic book world was indifferent. But with a carefully planned out marketing strategy and a bold PR campaign, I helped the book to becoming one of the bestsellers of the year. The first issue went through three printings, the second and third issues each got a second printing, and the graphic novel edition, released later in the year, was a sold-out success story. Once I left the book (due to a publisher shift), sales immediately plummeted by 66% due, I believe, to the lack of effective marketing and PR.
I love publishing, and I love marketing. I’ve got tons of knowledge about both. And I’m currently available to help apply that knowledge to your company at far lower prices than you’ll find elsewhere.
For example, the average press release in the corporate world costs around $5,000 to produce. That’s a lot of money for what amounts to a 1 or 2 page article. And yet I can write you a press release with the same level of quality for only $50. And what’s more, my rates for other services are similarly low. I’ll write catalog copy for $25 per entry. I’ll edit your books for $50 for a single run-through, or $250 as a comprehensive project editor. I’ll write copy for your website for 10 cents per word. I’ll even help you build a 15-25 page marketing plan for your company starting at the bargain price of $100!
How can I offer such low prices? It’s because I only take on a limited number of clients at a time, and I focus on working with small publishers who don’t have a lot of funding. I work on a freelance basis, which means I’m free to work with those who are doing interesting things… and whose products I think have a chance at being profitable.
